Your engine control unit (ECU) constantly monitors the electrical circuit feeding each fuel injector. P0270 means the ECU detected a lower-than-expected voltage or current on the Cylinder 4 injector control circuit — what technicians call a "low" condition.

Think of it like a dimmer switch stuck at minimum. The injector may not be opening fully — or not opening at all — so Cylinder 4 is either getting too little fuel or none. The result is a misfire, rough running, and unburned fuel heading straight toward your catalytic converter.

A bad ground raises resistance across every circuit that shares that path — including the injector circuit — and will trigger P0270 even when the injector and wiring are perfectly fine. ⚠ Misdiagnosis #1 — New injector installed before checking the wiring
This is by far the most expensive mistake made with P0270. A new injector installed into a damaged harness or corroded connector will throw the exact same code again within minutes of starting the engine. The injector was never the problem. Always test the circuit resistance and supply voltage before touching the injector. This one step separates an inexpensive connector repair from a much larger parts bill.
