Your engine fires each cylinder in a precise sequence, mixing air and fuel and igniting it to produce power. P0306 means the computer detected that cylinder 6 misfired — the combustion event in that cylinder either did not happen at all or was weak enough to be outside acceptable limits.

The computer tracks this using the crankshaft position sensor. Each time a cylinder fires, the crankshaft accelerates slightly. When cylinder 6 misfires, the expected acceleration does not occur — and the computer logs P0306 within milliseconds.
