Your engine's computer uses the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor to measure how hot or cold the incoming air is. Colder air is denser and carries more oxygen — so the computer adjusts the fuel mixture accordingly. Get the temperature wrong and the fuel mixture gets wrong too.

P0111 is a range/performance fault — meaning the sensor's voltage is technically within the acceptable electrical range (it's not dead or shorted), but the readings don't match expected real-world conditions. For example, the sensor reports 140°F on a 50°F morning, or the temperature doesn't budge at all after a cold start when it should climb steadily as the engine warms up.

P0113 means abnormally high temperature (open circuit — voltage too high). P0111 specifically means the reading is within acceptable electrical range but behaves incorrectly compared to expected conditions — for example, reporting 130°F on a cold morning when the engine hasn't been started. It's a logic check failure, not a wire check failure.
