Your engine uses oxygen sensors to monitor the exhaust gases leaving each bank of cylinders. The upstream sensor — Sensor 1 — sits before the catalytic converter and reports directly to the ECU in real time. A healthy sensor produces a voltage that cycles rapidly between 0.1V and 0.9V as the computer adjusts the fuel mixture.

P0151 fires when the Bank 2, Sensor 1 signal stays stuck below roughly 0.45V for an extended period. The ECU interprets this as a persistently lean exhaust condition — or, more often, as a sensor that has stopped doing its job properly.
