Your engine fires each cylinder with a precisely timed spark. That spark is generated by an ignition coil — one per cylinder on most modern engines. P0354 means the ECM (your car's main computer) detected an electrical fault in the circuit for Ignition Coil D, which controls the cylinder labeled "D" in the manufacturer's firing order.

The ECM monitors the coil circuit continuously. When it sends a trigger signal and does not get the expected electrical response back — or when it detects a short or open circuit in the coil wiring — it logs P0354 and turns on the check engine light.
