Your engine fires each cylinder using an ignition coil — a transformer that converts your car's 12-volt battery power into the high-voltage spark needed to ignite the fuel-air mixture. P0352 means the powertrain control module (PCM) detected a fault in the primary or secondary circuit of the coil assigned to Ignition Coil B.

The code covers two distinct failure modes. A primary circuit fault is an electrical problem on the low-voltage side — the wiring, the connector, or the PCM driver transistor that triggers the coil. A secondary circuit fault is a breakdown of the high-voltage output side — the coil winding itself, the spark plug wire, or the spark plug. Both trigger the same P0352 code.

💡 "Coil B" refers to the second coil in the firing sequence — not a physical location like left or right. On a 4-cylinder engine with coil-on-plug ignition, Coil B typically serves cylinder 2. Rough idle or shaking

Check engine light flashing
A flashing CEL — not steady — means an active misfire. This is the PCM warning you that the catalytic converter is in immediate danger. Do not ignore a flashing light.
Stumbling under acceleration
The engine hesitates or surges when you press the gas, especially from a stop or at low speed. One cylinder not contributing makes the power delivery uneven.
Fuel smell from exhaust
Unburned fuel passes straight through the unfired cylinder into the exhaust. A strong fuel smell at the tailpipe is a sure sign the coil is not firing at all.
Loss of power

Short distances only, and carefully. A misfiring cylinder dumps raw, unburned fuel directly into the exhaust stream. P0352 showed up with a misfire code — which do I fix first?
Fix P0352 first. The misfire code — such as P0302 for cylinder 2 — is a downstream symptom of the coil circuit fault, not a separate problem with its own cause. Once the coil circuit is repaired and the engine is firing on all cylinders again, the misfire code will clear itself after a short drive. You do not need to chase both codes separately.
How do I know if it is the coil itself or the wiring?
